Florence M. Gowin, 86, Fergus Falls 1921 - 2007
Florence M. Gowin, 86, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
She was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Campbell, the daughter of Sargent and Mary (Hurley) Hunkins. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1940.
On Jan. 15, 1941, she married Clarence Gowin at the Methodist Church in Breckenridge. She worked as a nursing assistant at Unity Hospital in Fridley, and also at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Over the years she cared for 23 foster children. For the last year and a half, she was a resident of Pioneer Cottages in Fergus Falls.
Florence was very active in the Senior Citizens Program. She volunteered there and at Broen Home. She was an active member of the Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Henry Hunkins, who died in World War II, and Walter Nelson.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence of Fergus Falls; children, James (Sharon) Gowin of Battle Lake, Gene (Alice) Gowin of Siloam Springs, Ariz., and Joyce (Paul) Iverson of Dawson; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Delores Rogahn of Glenwood, and Dorothy Halverson of Frazee; and a brother, Clifford Nelson of Pennsylvania.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Friday at Church of Peace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls
