Young was born in 1787 to William Hughes and Nancy Bowers in Lunenburg, VA. Young Hughes married Sarah Blanton, on 22 Mar 1809, raising 11 children, as follows: Putnam (m. Julia Wray); Susanna (m. James McMurry); Amos (m, Jane Alexander); Wesley (m, Sarah Ann Roberts, Elizabeth (m Wesley Blanton); Artie Elizabeth (m. Napoleon Davis); Narcissa (m. W. M. Hamrick); Sarah (m. John Blanton); Richard (m Elizabeth Hamrick); Jesse (not married) and Jolly (not married) He passed away in 1860.
