Biography

Nancy "Lizzie" Elizabeth Hughes came into the world on June 17, 1856, in Newark, Independence County, Arkansas. Her early years were spent in Big Bottom Township, within the same county, as indicated by the 1860 census records.

On June 11, 1871, Nancy embarked on a new chapter in her life when she married Martin Luther Arnold, a significant event that marked the beginning of their life together.

Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Nancy remained a steadfast presence in Big Bottom Township, Independence County, Arkansas, as reflected in the census records of 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920. Her dedication to her community and family was evident as she continued to reside in the same place she called home for much of her life.

Tragically, in 1928, Nancy faced the loss of her husband, Martin Luther Arnold. Following his passing, she applied for a widower's pension, a testament to her commitment to preserving his memory and recognizing his service in the Confederate Army.

Later that same year, on June 11, 1928, Nancy "Lizzie" Elizabeth Hughes passed away in Independence County, Arkansas. Her final resting place became the serene grounds of Blue Springs Cemetery in Newark, Independence County, Arkansas, where she joined her husband in eternal rest. Her life story is a testament to the resilience and enduring ties that bind families together through the passage of time.
