James Huckin was born on 17 May 1866 and baptised on 2 July 1866 at Chadlington, Oxfordshire, England. He was the son of Charles Huckin and Ann Leach.[1][2]
In the 1871 census, James Huckin was age 5 living at Chadlington, Oxfordshire with his father Charles Huckin (37), mother Ann Huckin (35), siblings William Huckin (13), George Huckin (11), Joseph Huckin (9), Jane Huckin (7), Isabella Huckin (2).[3]
In the 1881 census, James Huckin was age 15 living at Cold Harbour Cottages, Swerford, Oxfordshire with his father Charles Huckin (47), mother Ann Huckin (43), siblings George Huckin (22), Joseph Huckin (19), Isabella Huckin (11), John Huckin (10). Also visitors Chas Sauch (25), Lucy Huckin (21). Occupation: Ag Lab.[4]
James joined Great Western Railway about 1887 and worked as a labourer in the permanent way department.[5]
James Huckin and Elizabeth White married on 3 Mar 1888 at Stretton on Fosse, Warwickshire.[6] They had two children: Alfred Huckin (b. 1889), Mary Ann Huckin (b. 1891).
In the 1891 census, James Huckin was age 24 living at Lower Lemington, Gloucestershire with his wife Elizabeth Huckin (24), son Alfred Huckin (2), daughter Mary A Huckin (0), and brother-in-law William White (27). Occupation: Railway Labourer.[7]
In the 1901 census, James Huckin was age 34 living at Stourbridge Road, Lye, Worcestershire with his wife Elizabeth Huckin (34), son Alfred Huckin (12), daughter Mary A Huckin (10). Occupation: Railway Platelayer.[8]
In the 1911 census, James Huckin was age 44 living at 18 Dudley Road, Lye, Worcestershire with his wife Elizabeth Huckin (44), daughter Mary Ann Huckin (20). Occupation: GWR Foreman Platelayer.[9]
James retired from Great Western Railway in May 1931 after 44 years of service.[5]
James died on 18 April 1934 at Lye, Worcestershire. He was buried on 22 Apr 1934 at Lye/Wollescote Cemetery.[5][10][11][12]
