Biography
Walter Charles Hoyt was born about 1862 in New York. [See Research Notes below regarding his name.]
About 1880, Walter Charles Hoyt married Abigail Elaine Dunn.[1]
On 15 February 1893 in Los Gatos, California,[1] "C. W. Woodward" was arrested on a charge of bigamy. His 1st wife was Eleanor Abigail (Dunn), whom he married about 1880, and with whom he had at least 2 children. About 1890, he abandoned his wife and children. Subsequently, he met and married Anna L. Hastings. In so doing, he further changed his name to "Walter Howard St. Clair".
On 17 Jun 1893 in Santa Clara County, California,[2] Walter H. St Clair (age 31) married Annie L. Hastings (age 21).
On 15 Apr 1910,[3] Walter H. St Clair (age 42) was living in Napa City, Napa County, California as the married, head of household with his wife (listed in table below).

Research Notes
- name - there is strong evidence that he was born Walter Charles Hoyt (or Charles Walter Hoyt), which is the name he used to marry his 1st wife and the name by which their children knew him. Around or prior to 1890, Walter abandoned his 1st wife and their children,[1] and assumed a new identity; he was then called "C. W. Woodward". Subsequently, he met and married his 2nd wife, Anna L. Hastings. After his arrest on 15 Feb 1893 on the charge of bigamy,[1] he later that same year had a formal wedding with Anna L. Hastings using the name "Walter Howard St. Clair". He used that name for the rest of his life.
