Biography

"DAVID N. HOWSER was born on the farm which he now occupies August 31, 1844. His father (Nicholas Jr.) was one of the first settlers and was born in Tennessee. He was of German parentage, as his father, Nicholas (Sr.), was a native of that country and came to America during the progress of the Revolutionary War. He made his home for a time in Tennessee, and thence went as a pioneer to Kentucky. He bought land there and engaged in farming, making it his home to the end of his life. Nicholas Jr was reared in Kentucky and resided there until the fall of 1833, and then came with his family to Illinois." (Words in parentheses added by the profile manager for clarity)

Nicholas Howser married 1) Jane Warner, with whom he had 13 children, and 2) Rosa Ann (or Rosanna) Ritter, widow of Cornelius Huffman.
