Biography

Edward Howlett was born in 23rd March 1836. He was the eldest child of convict, James Howlett, and Catherine Hector, herself daughter of convicts Timothy Hector (abt.1773-) and Elizabeth (Fearn) Robinson (abt.1783-abt.1845).^[1]

Edward married Elizabeth Walker in 1859 at Penrith, New South Wales.^[2]

He passed away, aged 68 years, on 26th January 1905 at Penrith.^[3] A simple headstone stands as a memorial to 'a dear father' with the prayer ' rest in peace'.^[4] The Nepean Times carried the following obituary:^[5]

The news of the sudden death of Mr Edward Howlett came as a surprise to many. The old gentleman, although he had reached the allotted span, did not until quite recently did not compliain in any way. Deceased was born at Luddenham 70 years ago, and leaves a widow in delicate health, as well as a large family, all of whom are grown up.
