Laura was born in 1850. She was the daughter of Samuel Howe and Juliet Ward. She married Henry Richards, born in England 17 July 1848, son of Francis Richards and Anne Hallowell Gardner on 17 June 1871. They had 7 children. They lived in Gardiner, Maine. She passed away in 1943. [1]
Laura was an American writer. She wrote more than 90 books including biographies, poetry, and several for children. One well-known children's poem is her literary nonsense verse "Eletelephony".[2] Laura won her the first Pulitzer Prize for biography in 1918, a book about her mother. In 1932 she published "Tirra Lirra: New Rhymes and Old". [3]
