He was a noted playwright and screenwriter with credits such as Gone With The Wind and "They Knew What They Wanted" to his name. He was the first person to ever win an Academy Award posthumously and the first person to win both a Pulitzer Prize and an Academy Award.[1]
He is the maternal grandfather of noted actor/ director Tony Goldwyn and Paramount President John Goldwyn. It is his background and ancestry that is focused on in Tony Goldwyn's episode of Who Do You Think You Are (US).[2]
He died on his farm in a farming accident involving his tractor.[3]
