Frank Howard was a decorated baseball player known for his large size and prodigious output. His nicknames were "Hondo", "The Washington Monument" and "The Capitol Punisher".
Frank Howard was born on August 8, 1936. He was an All-American in both basketball and baseball at Ohio State. He played most of his major league career for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Senators (later known as the Texas Rangers). He was six feet, seven inches tall and his playing weight averaged between 275 and 290 pounds. He was named the National League's Rookie of the Year in 1960. Later in the American League with the Senators, he twice topped the American League in home runs and total bases. He hit 382 career home runs in his MLB career. In 1968, in one-week Howard hit 10 home runs in 20 at-bats, with at least one home run in six consecutive games. His 10 home runs in a week was a major league record.
