Born in Boone, Iowa in 1951. Moved to Oelwein, Iowa in 1960, then Indianola, Iowa in 1962 before returning to Boone in 1963. After graduating from Boone High School in 1969 and attending D.M.A.C.C. in Boone and I.S.U. in Ames, Iowa for one year each, joined U.S.M.C. in 1971. Left in 1977 as an avionics technician on the A-6A/E Intruder. Returned to college and graduated in 1981 from Iowa State University. Drifted around the country until settling down in Des Moines, Iowa. Worked for the State of Iowa in accounting, budgeting, managing until retired by the governor in 2012.

My cousin-in-law was from Boone. Hawbacker or Hawbecker, I believe, was the surname. Judy, the librarian for many years, was a good friend to my cousin-n-l.
