Biography

James House was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to Van Diemen's Land

James was probably born about 1804 in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, England.

James House married Louisa Foyle on 25 Mar 1830 in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, England.^[1][2]

He was transported aboard the ship "Eliza" in 1831 to Tasmania for his part in the "Swing Riots"of 25/11/1830 at Heytesbury.^[3] A copy of the ship's passenger list describes him as a ploughman groom from Hedgebury near Warminster, Wiltshire and that he was convicted on 27 Dec 1830. He arrived in Hobart, along with a number of other men convicted at the same time, on 29 May 1831.^[4]

A "Pardon" was issued and published in the Hobart Gazette Feb 5th 1836 for James House, but it appears that he did not take it up.

It is likely that this is his baptism record as this is close to Heytesbury and I know from personal research that it is likely. Buckle-52 15:12, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

James was baptised on 12 July 1807 in Codford St Mary, Wiltshire, England.^[5]
