Biography

Virginia was born 9 May 1902 in Maryland. She was the daughter of Horace Owings Hosmer and Emma Katherine (Blocker) Hosmer.^[1]

In the 1910 census Virginia (age 7) was living with her parents in Baltimore.^[2]

In 1920 Virginia (age about 17) was still with her parents. She was working as a secretary for the railroad (likely the B&O where her father worked).^[3]

Between 1920 and 1925 she married Benjamin Clyde Hancock, a railroad conductor. They had their first son Howard Elmer in 1925 and their second Kenneth Lee in 1927. In the 1930 census they are all living with Virginia's parents at 3137 Belmont Ave, Baltimore, Maryland, United States.^[4]

In the 1940 census they are still living at the same address, but now Benjamin is listed as the head of household. Living with them are Elizabeth's widowed mother Emma and her sister Pauline.^[5] The situation was much the same in the 1950 census, except that the two sons have moved out.

Virginia died at the age of 87 on 21 March 1990.^[6][7] She was buried in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland, United States.^[1]
