1559 Name and Birth

Margery Hosier was born before 29 October, 1569, the date of her baptism in Hanwood, Salop, the daughter of John Hosier and Elizabeth Phillips. Hanwood is a small town south west of Shrewsbury and directly south of Horton Lane and Upper Woodcote. The parish church is St. Thomas’ Church of Great Hanwood in the Diocese of Hereford.

The Visitation refers to her as Margeria, daughter of Joh'nes Hosier de Woodcote in com. Salop. ^[1]

Birth Year Estimation

Given her marriage in 1575, assume she was no younger than 16 at the time, hence born, say, 1559. This would mean that she was not baptized until she was 10 years of age.

1575 Marriage

Ric'i Waringe de Salop married Margeria, daughter of Joh'nes Hosier de Woodcote in com. Salop and his wife Elizabetha Philippes. ^[1]

He married Margery, who died by 1626, daughter of John Hosier of Wodecote, Gentleman, and his wife Elizabeth. ^[2]

On 11 Feb 1575/6 in Hanwood, Salop, Richard Waring of Shrewsbury married Margery Hosier, daughter of John Hosier ^[3]

“It may be noticed that Richard Waring of Woodcote, etc, married Margery, daughter of John Hosier, and Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Phillips, or, as an old MS formerly in the library of Lord Berwick says, Cecely, with whom he had lands in Yockleton. This Richard Phillips was the son and heir of William Phillips of Meole, by Cicely, daughter of Thomas Clough of Minsterley, and himself married one of the Onslows, by whom he had four daughters, coheirs. ^[4] The family of Waring was much connected with law…

Richard Waring, son of Adam and Eleanor, of Wodecote, was born at Charlton Hall, Shrewsbury in 1547 and died 1610. ^[2]

The Visitation of Shropshire refers to him as Ric'i Waringe de Salop. ^[1]

1626 Death

Margery died around 1626, but certainly before 30 Oct 1627 in England. ^[5]
