Thank you for the Katie Parsons inquiry. The reason Katie shows up as a half sibling to her siblings in the wikitree system is because her mother still has duplicate profiles that are not yet merged.
The solution would be to merge the Patience Babcock mother profile into the Patience Badcock profile based on primary source evidence such as Katie's birth record showing both parents to be Badcocks. See:

Reviewing the marriage record it looks like spinster Patience's actual Last name at birth was Badcock after all, probably a Bay Roberts cousin to her Badcock husband somehow. I will go in and revise the note about her last name since it is not "unknown" after all.
The employment of Babcock as a spelling for Katie is visible by her American marriage according to her primary source records, so the wikitree convention (deferring to the primary sources above family traditions) would be "Last name at Birth" written as Badcock and Babcock listed as "other" last name plus Parsons as "current" last name. This expedites the record for future researchers who typically would not know a name change had occurred and may be dead-ended as a result. For example, looking for her in the Rhode Island Babcock lineage, when really she comes from a different line.
I understand these naming conventions are at odds with your traditions, so my opinion is just review all the sources at hand and handle it how you like.
Best Regards,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

In WikiTree it's only one profile of Mr. X. and we can all add to that profile. Faith, work on your father's profile and his siblings. The earlier generations are already in WikiTree. I'll see if I can merge them. Pat
I'm so glad, Faith. WikiTree is amazing. I am Miller-55843 Cheers, Pat Miller
I wasn't sure who was asking for the merge and you have different birth places listed than I do for both of them. I got mine from my dad so I think they are correct.
About merging it is the profile managers that get it done, usually one signs off okaying it and the other just completes it. Then both are visible as co-managers. If there is conflicting info when merging, go with the strongest sourced info and maybe put the conflicted info in research notes under the bio. Primary sources should always be considered as stronger sources than family recollection. No disrespect to family, but what they believe is not always 100% accurate.
One can add info/sources/data/ and notes to a profile that is sitting around waiting to be merged. I do this often to be sure a good primary source isn't lost while waiting for a merge to get worked out. One the merge goes through my good primary source contributions are almost always visible in the final version. When someone is actively merging, you'd be locked out of editing, but merging does not take that long.
Just to keep life simple it is useful for managers to get the merges out of the way promptly , so the family data is more clearly visible.
To avoid making duplicates.... I find it useful to search on the name of the person as if I am just looking them up, rather than relying on the wikitree system to show me potential duplicates after I have begun a new profile. Unfortunately the system will not automatically prompt you with a duplicate such as Ann Miller b 1719 versus Anne Miller b. 1719. It's just not as good as seeing duplicates are we are. If I look up Ann Miller without adding a new profile, I will be able to see the Anne and Anna Millers as well.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
