Biography

Birth and Family

Cyril Thomas Hookham was born at Kingston on Thames, at Surrey, England in 1894. He was the son of Edward Hookham and Emma Baker.

Immigration to Australia

Cyril's father and some of his siblings immigrated to Australia and settled in South Australia.

Cyril immigrated to Australia as a 19-year-old. He departed Liverpool on the steamer the "Irishman", arriving in Melbourne, Australia in Nov 1913 [1]. Almost immediately he relocated to South Australia.

Hospital Admission 1918

When he was 23 years he was residing in Adelaide, South Australia. He was admitted to Adelaide Hospital on 1 March 1918 and released the following day. His medical record provided the following information:

Marriage and Children

Cyril married Katherine Lucy McCully on 16 June 1920 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Henley Beach. At the time of their marriage, Katherine was 37-years-old, while Cyril was 26-years-old. [2][3]

Cyril and Katherine had the following child/children:

  1. Kathleen Whiten Hookham (1921-) [4]

Hawker's Licence

In 1934 and 1935 Cyril applied for Hawker's Licences to operate at Corralyn Terrace, Enfield Park. [5][6]

Death of Wife

Katherine died on 9 June 1958 and was buried at St Jude's Anglican Cemetery, Brighton.[7]

Death

Cyril died 8 February 1965 at Brighton, South Australia. He was aged 70 years.[8]
