Nathaniel was born in 1718, son of Nathaniel Hone and Rebecca Brindley. He married Molly Earle and they had two known children.
He traveled to Rome in 1750 to study art and architecture. He was a member of the Florentine Academy in 1752. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Academy in London in 1768.
He died in 1784.
