Biography
Helga was born at the farm Holte. She was baptized at the Nes Church in Sauherad on June 15, 1862.[1] She was confirmed on October 1, 1876 at the same church.[2]
On July 17, 1884, she married Ambros O. Holtan, who was from the farm North Sunde.[3] Ambros took over the farm Holtan from his father in 1886.
Helga and Ambros remained on the farm all of their lives, raising a large family of children, including Tone, Ole, Helga, Leif, Tone, Halvor, Gunnar, Ambrose and Johannes. In 1938, their son Gunnar took over the farm.
At the time of the 1900 census, Ambros Olsen and Helga Leifsdatter were living at the farm Sunde, along with their children: Olav, Helga, Leiv, Tone, Halvor, and Gunnar . At the time of the 1910 census, Ambros and Helga were living at the farm Holtan, along with their children: Leif, Halvor, Gunnar, Ambros, Johannes, Helga and Tone.[4] In both censuses, Ambros is using the last name of Sunde. Ambros was also listed at the farm Holtan in 1900, mentioned as the farm owner.
Ambros died at the age of eighty-seven. Helga died six years after her husband, at the age of eighty-six.[5]
