Albert James Hollett was born 28 April 1881 in Bradninch, Devon, England, just like his previous four siblings. They were the children of Robert Hollett and his wife Sarah Godfrey. [1]
At the age of three years, Albert set out with his parents and five siblings on a grand adventure to Australia on the R.M.S. 'Quetta' which left Gravesend, England on 9 February 1886. [2]
Albert's newest sibling was born on the voyage to Australia on 7 March 1886. Her birth was recorded on arrival in Queensland. [3]
The 'Quetta' in spite of having been rife with vomiting and diarrhea during the voyage, finally docked in Brisbane, Queensland, on 6 April 1886, allowing the Hollett family to step on to Australian soil. [4][5]
On 11 February 1901, Albert married Ida England in Brisbane, Queensland. [6]
They had seven children:
Florence Lilian Hollett (1901-1991)
Doris Emily Hollett (1903-1942)
Ida Thelma Hollett (1905-1996)
Colin Albert Hollett (1909-1962)
Clifford James Stead Hollett (1912-2001)
Leonard Victor Hollett (1914-1930)
Roy Allan Hollettt (1918-2009)
On the 1908 Electoral Rolls, Albert and Ida Hollett were residing at South Street, Ipswich, Queensland, where Albert worked as a Fitter. [7]
By 1921, the family were situated in Charleville, Queensland, where Albert and Ida lived at Galatea Street, and Albert's occupation remained as a Fitter. [8]
In 1926, Albert was the proud recipient of a Railway Award. [9]
At the time of their son Leonard's passing at age 15 in a Brisbane suburb, from a diving accident, Albert was the elected Mayor of Charleville. [10]
In 1932, owing to his ill health, Albert and Ida returned to Brisbane to live. By 1932 they were settled at 29 Longlands Street, East Brisbane, where Albert still worked as an Engine Fitter for the Railway. Daughter Doris was engaged as a Tailoress. [11]
On 3 January 1962, Albert passed away in Brisbane, Queensland. [12]
