In movies, newspapers, and posters, the Rosie the Riveter campaign stressed the patriotic need for women to enter the work force—and they did, in huge numbers. Duing WWll, women worked in many positions, previously closed to them, with aviation having the greatest increase in female workers. More than 310,000 women worked in the U.S. aircraft industry in 1943, representing 65 percent of the industry’s total workforce.
Pauline Isabelle (Hoiseth) Roche was born on 1 June 1916 in Wheeler, Dunn, Wisconsin, United States, daughter of John Iver Hoiseth and Johanna Elisabeth (Skillingstad) Hoiseth. She married William Henry Roche (born in Suisun, Solano County, California) on 1 June 1946 in Tacoma, WA. Pauline died on 23 February 1975 in Napa, California, United States, aged 58. She was buried in Rockville Cemetery, Fairfield, California.
