Ken was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. At age 17, he joined the US Navy in 1958 and served for 20 years, rising to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. While in the Navy, Ken was stationed/visited many foreign countries in Europe and the Caribbean. He served on two ships: the USS Columbus CG-12 and the USS Howard W. Gilmore AS-16. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1978, Ken worked for McDonnell Douglas as an instructor for the Harpoon and Tomahawk missile programs.
Ken has been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America in his youth and as an adult leader, attending many camps and one Jamboree. Among other awards, Ken was awarded the Silver Beaver.
