Anna was born in Brockum, Hannover, Germany; the daughter of Johann Heinrich Schroeder and Marie Margarethe Engel Hodde. Anna came to Texas at the age of four years with her widowed mother and siblings. Anna married Henry C. Haferkamp on November 24, 1887, in Zionsville, Washington County, Texas.
