The son of Charles Hoagland and Sarah (Scott) Hoagland, Grant Hoagland was born in Dundee Township, Michigan[1] in 1895, residing there with his family.[2][3][4] Grant registered for the World War I draft when he was 21, registering in Dundee, Michigan on June 5, 1917.[5] He stated that he lived in Britton, Michigan and that he worked for his father, farming. Grant was described as a tall, slim man, with dark brown hair and blue eyes; he did not enlist.
He married Lydia (Bauer) Hoagland, the daughter of Bernhardt Stephen Bauer and Elizabeth M. Goetz, marrying in Monroe, Michigan on September 5, 1925[6] and having one daughter together. Grant and his family made their home in Dundee Township, farming.[7][8]
Grant registered for the World War II draft when he was 46.[9] He stated that he lived on Highway M-50 in Britton, Michigan and that he worked as a farmer. Having registered in the "old man's draft," he did not enlist and, in 1950, lived with his wife in Dundee.[10]
Grant Hoagland passed away at the Frenchtown Convalescent Center in Monroe, Michigan at the age of 81[11] and is buried at Ridgeway Cemetery in Ridgeway, Michigan.[12][13]
