Mary Emily Martha Annan Hoad was born on 17 December 1886 in New Zealand. She was the daughter of Alexander Annan and his de facto wife Mary Ann Hoad.

Around 1910, she married Charles Edward Nicholls.

Around 1922, she married George Thomas Hamer.

She passed away on 13 October 1975, aged 88.
