George was born in 1841. He passed away in 1917.
SARAH CATHERINE KERN, born to Rebecca Jane Hockmand and Henry Kern near Strasburg, Va., Jan. 19, 1847; d. Apr. 2, 1920; m. Aug. 29, 1865, GEORGE AMOS HINKINS, b. Apr. 24, 1841; d. Feb. 7, 1917; both interred at Strasburg.
During the Civil War they lived with her younger sister, Salome, and small brother Abraham on "Willow Bend Farm" where she was born. While the war was in progress she lost her parents; her mother died with smallpox contracted from the soldiers, and her father died suddenly while returning from the mountains where he had gone to see after the cattle that were necessarily pastured there on account of the invasion of the Yankees. His horse was found later with rein tied up in such a manner as not to interfere with his feet.
They were industrious farming people and member of the Christian Church. Their children included:
