Prentiss James Hill was born in 1912, son of Pleasant Isaac Hill (1872–1946) and Annie Joyce (Harris) Hill (1876–1963).
His siblings were:

- Carrie Hill (Apr 1896 – 1961)
- Melvil Hill (Sep 1898 – 1924)
- Marvin Calvin Hill (12 Apr 1906 – 2 Jan 1986)
