So many WikiTree things to do: What will I do today?
My Project started on 25 October 2023
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Dunwich_Benevolent_Asylum
Register of personal details relating to females admitted to Dunwich Benevolent Asylum 1859-1906
The goal of this project is to create profiles (or update) from the pdf avalable at Digitised at Queensland State Archives, Brisbane, Australia.
About ME and Genealogy Since 1988 I have been looking into the history of various families. Well before the internet. I remember dialling up via the modem several sites directly that held information, with the wire down the hall, and hogging the land based phone line for hours. More waiting for pages to upload than searching.
I still search for hours, now via the near instantaneous internet.
Sources I love that WikiTree has so much emphasis on reliable sources I wish I understood HOW IMPORTANT RECORDING SOURCES are when I started out in 1988. I have so much information from then in my database I have no idea where I got that information or how reliable it is.
Brick Walls I have been obsessed in trying to break my husband's D'Arcy brick wall. - see profile for details - Alan George D'Arcy
Creating Profiles: Slow going, but I find it FUN.
I am very slowly transferring data over from my home desktop databases.
My process:
I re-research the inidvidual in my database to ensure that things are correct, and any new sources.
I nearly always find something interesting. It what makes this hobby so fascinating.
If everything OK then I add a profile and then redo the process for relatives.
My home database, using Legacy Family Tree V9 Deluxe. I have used this software since the 1990's and find it hard to use any other, I keep trying new genealogy software and always go back, not because I think Legacy is better, but I am so used to using it.
DNA Tests
I have also put my and my husband's results at Gedmatch:
Y DNA FAIL My Husband's uncle kindly tested for me at FamilyTreeDNA for all three types of DNA tests about five years ago. private D'Arcy kit 344849 Y-DNA Haplogroup is I-M223 and MtDNA Haplogroup is 5a1b1c, part of the dorsey project: https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/dorsey-dna/dna-results
I mainly wanted to find matches via the Paternal line. Looking to break a brick wall, Alan George D'Arcy One single solitary match only in five years on the 'y' test and the reply was not all that helpful. The ancestor mentioned was "John Whitehead" born about 1776 at Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England.
WikiTree: I seem to be getting more involved, Challenges, source-a-thons, connect-a-thons and becoming a Soucerer, Data Doctor and now a connector. Juggling it all with my own updates and projects a bit of a challenge.. And that is just WikiTree.
My main problem I have is ME! and my overly compulsive/obsessive need for online privacy, which is at odds with sharing for genealogy. So you probably will not find me on any ohter platforms only G2G at WikiTree.
