Hello

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Mary ~ WikiMessenger

PS Sometimes links don't work in emails. You can always find a link that works in the public comments on your profile.

You've been a WikiTree member for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.

You are probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. Since collaboration isn't always easy, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

I'm always happy to answer questions!

Hi Mike

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Also noticed you made 1180 contributions to Wikitree, thank you! Here at WikiTree we like to have our members involved with others; collaboration is key!

Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Here is a list of our WikiTree projects you might like to check out: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Projects

Why don't you also stop by the One Name Studies project, to see if there's already a name study for (surname) going on? The current leaders for that are Doug Lockwood and Alison Andrus. They would be happy to get you started.

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Please let me know if you have questions. :-) Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Hello there,

You've been here a week now, and we hope you enjoyed your first stop on your guided tour and were able to make good use of it.

On our next stop How to Edit a Profile for tips on making your profiles stand out.

If the link doesn't work in your email, you can find it in the messages on the right hand side of your profile. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the note and question(s)!

Click here for Help with Photo's

Click the photo and it takes you to the edit page for the photo. Click here for How do you remove or delete a photo?

Click here for the GEDCOM Help Pages

I'd encourage you to do a small one for now to get going and then wait until we switch over to our new import process. It'll be a lot easier for you to move your GEDCOM then.

If you have a problem and need help you can contact the Wiki GEDCOM manager Eowyn Langholf.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for joining us! I’m David, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

Did you have fun learning your way around WikiTree yesterday?

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

Thanks for volunteering, Michael! As a full member of the WikiTree community, you can now add family profiles. Signing the Honor Code will allow you to work on other profiles, too.

Since WikiTree is different from other sites, we have a guided tour to help members learn their way around. The first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

I'm happy to answer questions. Tomorrow, another mentor will check by to see if you need help, and we'll post weekly messages after that.

To meet other WikiTreers, check out our G2G forum and the Question of the Week: Were any of your ancestors involved in the American Indian Wars?

Hi Michael,

A warm welcome to the WikiTree family! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used and it is FREE. WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

We’re really glad you’re here. More importantly, have fun growing your family tree and connecting to persons with the same interest.
