William was born in 1925. He passed away in 2017.

"William is the son of Ruth Walter and William J. Hetzler Jr. and grew up in Washington D.C. with his mother and aunt and uncle Martha and Steve Walter.

Bill was a voracious reader, learner and industrious worker, earning enough with his paper route and other jobs to pay his own way and augment the family income.

Following graduation in 1942, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to the South Pacific. He participated in the battle for the Japanese held Island of Peleliu. In 1945, he met the love of his life, a beautiful WAVE from Portland, Oregon, Marilynn Adair. They married in 1946 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage until her death.

Bill obtained a BA in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.

He began his career at Mutual of Omaha in Washington D.C. He traveled a lot, met many friends, spent many vacations in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and eventually moved to Omaha in 1966, where he rose to the position of President of United of Omaha. He retired in 1990.

His favorite times was in the U.S. Virgin Island on his sloop the "Kitty Hawk".
