This Henderson line comes down from Hanover Co VA, and is somehow a part of the "Tidewater Hendersons" that arrived in the York Valley mid-17th c., probably as Civil War refugees. Family lore says they came here from Fife, Scotland, and sailed away from Leith. First documented ancestor is Charles, of Halifax VA; father by circumstantial evidence was Edward, of Goochland/Cumberland VA.
The Matheny line came out of the lower Shenandoah, around Harper's Ferry, and moved down the Ohio Valley and points west, all the way to Oregon. This line descends from Daniel Matheny, jr., younger of the two sons of the immigrant Daniel Mathena, who went back to Maryland after his father's death in VA. In the mid-18th c. this family moved down to the Berkeley Co VA area to take advantage of leases of Fairfax land. First ancestor on this line with any documentation is Daniel of Adams Co OH, who was b. c. 1773, and lived at least until early 1871.
