Biography
John Hemphill, soldier, jurist and Confederate congressman.[1]
Son of John and Jane (Lind) Hemphill.[1] Uncle of John James Hemphill and great-great-uncle of Robert Witherspoon Hemphill. Second lieutenant in the war with the Seminole Indians in 1836.[2] Final resting place in Texas State Cemetery, Austin, Texas. Hemphill County, Texas was named in his honor.[3]
