Biography

Ellen was born in 1841. She died in 1881 after being bitten by a copperhead snake, confirmed my multiple sources.

Edited based on own research and other family trees. There is a gravestone for Ellen in Lawrence County, Illinois with her husband, father in law and mother in law. However, this was placed many years later after descendants placed the stone and assumed she was also there. But we now know that after her husband Joseph's death, she and her children came back to Union County, North Carolina via covered wagon. My grandmother, Lois Evelyn Medlin, told many stories of her father (William Medlin's) recollections of coming back to North Carolina in that covered wagon with his mother and siblings.
