Biography

Caroline was born on the family farm near Balta, ND, on January 29th (or 30th), 1929, the daughter of Walter and Christine (Heisler) Heilman. In her youth she worked at hospitals in Rugby and Minot. Caroline married Tony Keller on December 30, 1953 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva, ND. Caroline was a strong woman of faith and worked hard on all areas of the farm, from her garden to milking the cows to assisting with the grain harvest. The couple farmed in rural Granville area and Caroline sold eggs and cream to area residents for many years. She loved her farm life.

Caroline was involved in the Granville American Legion Auxiliary and for many years she was chairman of the poppy committee for Memorial Day. Caroline was a long time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Granville, where she was a member of the choir and taught Catechism classes for many years. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva the past few years. She babysat the children of the Frey families for many years.

Caroline loved to cook and always wanted to make sure there was enough food for family gatherings. She would not take her seat at the table before ensuring everyone would have enough to eat. Her specialties were chicken noodle hot dish, choc-o-late cake and for her grandson Ian, noodles & cheese (Grandma’s way). She would often visit her elderly friends and never hesitate to do anything they asked of her.
