Biography

Nancy Hedrick was born March 29, 1812 in Crockett, Wythe County, Virginia. Her Parents were Jacob and Susannah Smith Hedrick.

On November 9, 1837 she became the wife of William Lambert and he was the father of her eight children. The date of record for the 1850 census was June 1, 1850 William was reported as being 40 year of age and working as a carpenter. Nancy was reported as being 38 years of age and they were living in the Western District of Scott County, Virginia. There were five children, James W age 11 years, Martha E age 9 years, Letticia J age 7 years, William Elgin age 5 years and Henry S age 2 years. The date of record for the 1860 census was June 1, 1860 and the family had moved to North View in Giles County of Virginia. As head of the family William was now 50 years of age and working as farm labor. Nancy had given birth to three more children and those living with family were James W age 21 years, Letticia age 15 years, William age 13 years, Henry 11 years, Sarah age 8 years, Oscar H age 6 years and Mary Angeline who was 3 years old.

When 1880 rolled around Nancy was living in the Jefferson District of Lincoln County, West Virginia. She was reported as being 68 years of age and head of those living there which were three of her granddaughters Nancy Dequasie age 16 years, Virginia Dequasie age 13 years and Carisa Dequasie age 6 years. Also she was residing next door to the family of her youngest daughter Mary Angeline Lambert Smith Smith Spurlock.
