• Stated on the Findagrave memorial: "Dates are from private records. Location was not found but on a ridge near the head of Goforth Creek. New marker was erected by grandchildren with dates." So, there is no genealogical evidence to support the memorial's claims at the site. The alleged "private records" might be an unsourced family tree, or groupsheet, copied from the internet.
• John's birth year is computed at 1824 based on the 1850 and 1860 censi. This differs from the 1812 year posted on the Findagrave memorial.

Findagrave has wrong DOB.

• Next door is the Garrett (60 SC) and Unity (60 SC) Headen household. This is the second straight census that John is found next to Garrett and Unity, who are generally accepted as his parents, and it is the second straight census that John is listed with an age that computes to a birth year of 1824.

• We haven't yet found John and his family in 1870 and may never do so. Many Southern families were omitted from the census that year. Some claim it was a tactic used by Northern carpetbaggers to reduce the count and therefore the Southern states representation.
• Garret "Headen" is still in Rabun County listed as age 72 born SC and in his household a woman Luvina age 46 N.C. and four children aged 7 to 18. Next door is Isaac "Heddin" age 33, born GA, his wife and seven children. On the prior page, about 8 houses from Garret, is his broher Joel "Headin" (72 SC) and next door to him is William "Headin" (39 SC) his wife and four children.
