Hazlett-959 and Heazlett-35 appear to represent the same person because: Hello Joanne, working these ones slowly.

Sometimes wikitree insists on using the oldest profile, I haven't looked into which is which. I am not concerned which spelling is used for this merge, there are many variations in both countries. Her brothers used Heazlett in Australia, but in Ireland are examples of both (not sure what current families use there). Given that she married and changed her name it doesn't worry me, as in wiki it will all be linked regardless of how we spell it. I do think that the male line that continues to use Heazlett should be recorded as that, and their direct descendants agree. Once we have this merged, we can merge her husband's profiles, simpler that way I think Hope to work on Rebecca's soon cheers Tony

Hi Joanne

My GGG grandmother was Ann Hazlett married Simon Porteus I believe the spelling should be as original - many names have changed because of illiteracy or pronunceunation.

Heazlett is a variation of the spelling of Hazlett adopted by the family of Abraham Hazlett after he immigrated to Maitland NSW - his family spelt his name Heazlette on his death certificate and adopted the spelling Heazlett when they settled in Braidwood.

Other branches of his family retained the original spelling used in Ireland and on their Immigration papers ie.Hazlett Refer Ann Porteus (Hazlett), Janw Kelly (Hazlett). His brother Robert retained the spelling of Hazlett as did his family. I believe the spelling should be left as per the original and the ancestors still in Ireland and America

Thank you Ron. If HAZLETT is the original spelling then perhaps that is what we should follow. My husband's ancestor is Jane (Hazlett) Kelly and that is why I used that spelling to begin with.

Heazlett-35 and Hazlett-959 look very much like the same person - same dates, same husband, etc.

If you and the other profile manager can agree on her surname spelling, a merge seems appropriate. And her parents and husband duplicated too??
