Biography

Theny was born about 1811 in Virginia, United States.^[1][2] Her birth name of Hazlett is implied by her marriage record. (Note that the Ancestry transcription of the 1850 census implies she was born in Pennsylvania, but that is likely a mis-reading of the census, where one birth entry of Pa on the census page has been attributed to all entries below it.)

Thinia Haxlett married Absalom Ballenger on 17 Nov 1829 in Cabell County, Virginia.^[3]

In the 1850 US census, Therry Ballengee (39) was living in Wayne, Virginia, with Absallom (42), children Eve (19), Rutha (16), Levi (14), Eli (11), Elizabeth J (9), Phebe (7), Lucina (5), Theny (2), and with Jane Ballengee (32).^[1]

In the 1880 US census, Thena Ballenger (69) was living in Union, Wayne, West Virginia, with sister-in-law Jane Ballenger (63), ans son Absalem Ballenger (27) and his wife Mary (25). She was widowed.^[2]

Theny died in 1882^[4] from “old age”. She was 71 years 5 months and 10 days. Her parents were recorded at the time of her death as Alexander and Febe Hazlett.^[5] She was buried in Ballengee Cemetery, Centerville, Wayne County, West Virginia, United States.^[6]
