Ian was born in College Park, South Australia during 1899. He is the son of Arthur Dudley Hayward and Mary Anne Pagan. He passed away in Mitcham, South Australia during 1964.
Ian was born in College Park, South Australia on 9 December 1899.[1] The following birth notice was published in the newspaper, The South Australian Register, on 16 January 1900: [2]
HAYWARD. - On the 9th December, at Harrow-road, the wife of Dudley Hayward, of a son.
Ian died in Mitcham, South Australia on 20 November 1964 at the age of 64 years.

Ian's remains were cremated and interred at the Centennial Park Cemetery in Pasadena, South Australia.[6]
The following biography was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Advertiser, on 25 December 1943 in respect to the awarding of Imperial Honours to Ian and other service personnel:[7]
Maj. Ian Dudley Hayward, of St. Peters, who has been made a member of the Order of the British Empire, Military Division, is 44, and a director of the firm of John Martin & Co, Ltd., a member of the board of the Adelaide Children's Hospital, and a governor of St. Peter's College. Maj. Hayward was educated at St. Peters College, and Jesus College, Cambridge. He was married in 1928 to Miss Agnes Irvine, daughter of the late Sir William Irvine, of Melbourne. He enlisted at the outbreak of war, was with his unit at Tobruk for six months, served in the Middle East, and is now in New Guinea.
