C L Hays was born on March 16, 1908 in Bentonia, Yazoo County, Mississippi, United States. (Note: name uses initials only)

C L Hoyes (age 25) married Nettie Turner (age 24) in 1933 in Yazoo County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Joe Turner & Maxie Green.^[1]

On April 1, 1940, C L, aged 31, was shown as the married father-in-law of B C Whitefield in Beat 4, Coahoma, Mississippi.^[2]

On October 16, 1940, C L registered for the World War II draft in Clarksdale, Coahoma County, Mississippi.^[3]

C L enlisted on November 28, 1942 in Camp Shelby, Mississippi.^[4] He was discharged on December 6, 1943.^[5]

In 1948, C. L. and Nettie were included in the Clarksdale, Mississippi City Directory. His occupation was listed as a carpenter.^[6]

On April 1, 1950, C L, aged 42, carpenter, was the married head of household in Coahoma, Mississippi.^[7]

In 1951, C. L. and Nettie were included in the Clarksdale, Mississippi City Directory. His occupation was listed as a farm worker.^[8]

Sometime between 1951 and 1953, it appears C L and Nettie divorced. While no record has been located for the divorce, nor a marriage license found, in 1953, C L is listed in the Clarksdale, Mississippi City Directory with Lerotha W. Hays listed as his spouse. He is again working as a carpenter.^[9]

C L Hays died (age 80) on May 13, 1988 residing in Bolivar, Mississippi.^[10][11]

He was buried in the extension of Hearon Cemetery in Mound Bayou, Bolivar County, Mississippi.^[12]
