Lina was born on 16 August 1871[1] in Kent. She was the daughter of Frederic Wordsworth Haydon and Robina Fairbairn who married on 1 December 1868 at Leeds.[2] (Note; her father was the son of Benjamin Robert Haydon[3], painter of note, who was friends with William Wordsworth[4], hence her father's second forename).
The registration of Lina's birth has not yet been determined. The exact place of Lina's birth is uncertain, other than it was in the County of Kent. The 1881 census suggests Fairseat? Muse, in Kent, while the 1911 census records Ashford in Kent.
Lina's mother died on 9 January 1873, at St Leonard's, Hastings, Sussex, aged 39.[5] Lina was 17 months old.

The marriage was registered at York in the fourth quarter of 1894. At this census her husband William Boyd Boyd Carpenter (head, married, 31, private secretary, born Tetsworth, Oxfordshire), was at 40 Manchester St, Rectory, St Marylebone, London, on his own, a private secretary. This census also recorded that Lina and her husband had been married for 16 years, and had had two children, both of whom were still living.[15]
In June 1912 Lina posed for the photograph used in this profile. It is not clear what event, if any, this was for.
Some time before August 1917 Lina and her husband must have been divorced.
