Claudie died of scarlet fever, both he and brother Carlos had it at the same time. Ben was very attached to him and took his death very hard. Mom (Dorothy) told the story of how Ben made the statement "I will never love another one of my children like I did him," Dorothy told me in tears, "I know my dad loved me, he just never said it." Claudie's death had a huge impact on the whole family.
