Biography
Hunter Hawkins is a part of US Black heritage.
Sergeant Hunter Hawkins served with the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. Service Started: unknown Unit(s): 3rd North Carolina Volunteer Infantry Service Ended: unknown
Hunter was born in 1882. His mother was Easter Hawkins.[1]
He married Helen Lewis on 15 March 1905 in Kings County, New York, USA.[3] They had one child, a daughter named Ruth.
Hunter passed away on October 24, 1949 in Vance County, North Carolina, USA of injuries following an auto accident.[4][5]
His obituary says he was a former president of the "Vance County Negro Fair" and "active in civic affairs among the Negro people."[6]
Research Notes
FindAGrave gives his father as Henry Dunston. His death certificate gives his parents as Esther and Moses Hawkins; Moses was his grandfather. Henry Dunston was probably the son of Moses' second wife, Louisa Dunston.
