Biography

Henry Hawkins was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to Swan River Colony

Henry was the son of Alfred Hawkins, a farmer.[1]

On 31 December 1850 Henry Hawkins (alias Joshua Lovelock) pleaded guilty to stealing 8 heifers and 2 oxen. He was convicted at Devizes and sentenced to 10 years transportation to the Swan River Colony in Western Australia.[2]

He came to Western Australia as a prisoner on the William Jardine, arriving on 4 August 1852.[3][4]

Henry married Anne McGrath on 30 November 1854.[5]

Henry passed away on 9 March 1903 at Perth, Western Australia. Henry is buried at Karrakatta Cemetery.[6]

Research Notes

He was a bricklayer. He employed sixteen Ticket of Leave men at Mason's timber station, Canning 1855-1875 and possibly two sawyers at Collie in 1875 and 1876.[1]

Henry died on 9 March 1903 in Perth.[7] His cemetery record has his year of death wrong.[8]
