George Robert Hawkins is believed to have been born about 1822 at or about Hackney or London in Middlesex England. His parents are shown as Richard and Emma Rebecca Hawkins (nee Nelson) on his death certificate.
George Hawkins is believed to have married Sarah White in December 1851 at St Peter Church of England in Mile End Old Town, England. Which is comparable to the only marriage reference found which suggests it should be Stepney in London. Mile End Green is now known as Stepney Green.
George Hawkins described as a Traveller now aged 30 and Sarah aged 24 Immigrated to the Victorian Colony in July 1853 on the Agnes Blaikie. They were accompanied by John Hawkins aged 10 months, possibly their son.

George Robert Hawkins originally described as a traveler on arrival in the colony soon became a miner in Gold rush Victoria; before settling as a market gardener in the New London Township on Fryers Creek Road in Campbell's Creek.
George Hawkins passed away October 1878 at the age of 54 at Campbell's Creek near Castlemaine in Victoria.
