Research Notes

  • Wiley and his family were living in Jefferson, Ashe County, North Carolina at the time of the 1870 Census -- his wife, Mary, is listed as being 37 years old, but Wiley's age was apparently misread during the transcription of the record, and the transcription shows him to be 65 years old. The age entered for him looks like "45" compared to other things written on the page, but the person who transcribed the record listed him 20 years old. His mother and children are also listed in the household, so it does appear to be the right family.In the 1870 census Wiley (age 45) was the head of household in Jefferson, Ashe, North Carolina, United States. This census also includes Susan Hauser, who is probably the daughter of Wiley's brother, Nicholas: Susanna Hauser (abt.1848-)[1] -- Fiscus-32 20:03, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
