Rutger Oelsen Hauer (born 23 January 1944) was a Dutch actor, writer, and environmentalist. He acted in both Dutch and English-language TV series and films, probably best known for his role as the Replicant nemesis of Harrison Ford in Blade Runner.

Rutger Oelsen Hauer was born on 23 January 1944 in Breukelen in the Netherlands. He was the son of drama teachers Teunke (née Mellema) and Arend Hauer.[1] He has three sisters, one older and two younger.

Hauer grew up in Amsterdam. Since his parents were very occupied with their careers, he and his sisters were brought up mostly by nannies. He went to a Waldorf school.

At the age of 15, Hauer ran off to sea and spent a year scrubbing decks aboard a freighter. Returning home, he worked as an electrician and a joiner for three years while attending acting classes at night school. Hauer served in the Royal Netherlands Navy.

By his first wife Hester Metz, they married 18-08-1966[1], he has one child born in 1966, actress Aysha Hauer.

Hauer married his second wife, Ineke ten Cate, in 1985 (they had been together since 1968).

Rutger Hauer died on 19 July 2019, at his home in Beetsterzwaag at the age of 75, following a short illness.[2]

He is my fifth cousin so was exciting to find that out
Hi there profile managers!

We plan on featuring Rutger alongside Ingrid Bergman, the Example Profile of the Week, in the Connection finder on February 24th. Between now and then is a good time to take a look at the sources and biography to see if there are updates and improvements that need made, especially those that will bring it up to WikiTree Style Guide standards. We know it's short notice, so don't fret too much. Just do what you can. A Team member will check on the profile Tuesday and make changes as necessary.

Thanks! Abby

Rutger had four sisters. His sister Ruth died very young.
Hi Steven,

I found the birth announcement from the newspaper in The Netherlands. It is just a small one. I can upload the image to the profile if you like and also add it to the biography if you like.

I also found the civil registration card Image 96! of his father Arend in Amsterdam with the marriage date of Rutger, with his first Swiss wife Heidi Metz in 1966 if you scroll down you will find it.

Later I saw Jan Terink already added that to the G2G post. At least that is a reliable source. It is hard to find more as the archives in The Netherlands are accessible before 1920 and back in time.......... But I will see what else there is to find.

One of my favorite actors - very nice profile for him!

His IMDb profile is here.
