Biography

Peter Hatfield, born Sturbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts on 07 Jan 1771, was the son of Elizabeth & William Hatfield. ^[1]

Notes

I always think maps of the area are fun, especially old maps showing where people lived at various times. There are such maps for Summerhill in 1853, 1859, 1875 and 1904... this one is from 1859 and it is easy to see where the Hatfields lived in lot 50, the south east corner of Summerhill, NY... sometimes I think of lot 50 as the Hatfield lot... the road where most of them lived is Hatfield Road or Hatfield Hill Road... look here:

I also looked at Groton maps and Homer and Cortlandville maps and found a few more Hatfields in Homer and Cortlandville, near the Cayuga County line on the 1855 and 1876 maps of Cortland County... The Hatfield cemetery is in lot 50 of Summerhill, now called the Hatfield - Hinman cemetery, on Hinman Road in lot 50. Only one of these Hatfield stones is seen on Find a Grave, and a few from Cortland Rural Cemetery, the name of the Cortland City cemetery, and a few in West Hill Cemetery in Homer, NY.
