Just a short note about Grand Ma, and Grand Pa. I never new my mother's father, and I guess she didn't either. Mr. Forsyth took off some place (phila. probably) and left his family all alone. Ma had a tough road to travel with her kids and had to farm them out to others to help raise while she worked in a sewing factory, did ironing, or housekeeping etc for others. The girls (her darghters) had to fend for themselves and did pretty good in most cases raising their own families.

Grand Ma, finally found the Love of her life in Frank Fahnestock. I wish I could remember more details but it was a about 5 years or so before she died that her and Frank caused quite a stir when they decided to set up a little housekeeping in the Jackson Lick hi-rise apartments on 6th street. I used to love seeing her any time I could, and we all loved Frank too.

Love, it can hit you at any time! (Written by Terre Forsyth daughter of Jack Forsyth, Son of Anna)

Anna Catherine Hassler was my Grandmother and was always close to me as a child and as a young man. I was born in her home on Atlas Street in Harrisburg, PA. At the time of her death in 1969, I was 40 years old so I was well acquainted with her for at least 36 years.

Anna Forsyth was abandoned by her husband and left with six children to raise. My mother (Dolly) was 12 years old when her youngest sibling, John (Jack), was born and served as a surrogate mother to her 3 youngest siblings. My Grandmother took her out of school in the 7th grade and she kept the children and the house while her Mother worked in order to feed the family. This was not unusual in those days, as many young girls left school at 12 to care for the younger children in their families, when a parent died or was disabled.

Grandmother worked most of her life to make a living for herself and the children that were still with her. Her son Jack had some kind of job from the time he was in Junior High School, to help his Mother.

Late in Anna's life, her husband stopped comingto Harrisburg every 7 years, to prove he was still alive. Anna then married a widower, Fran Fahenstock, who was a retired architect for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They had several very good and loving years together.

Grandmother is buried in the Woodlawn Gardens Cemetery in Lower Paxton Township. The grave marker shows that Frank Fahenstock is also buried there. Frank's children, upon his death, buried him with their mother even though his will stipulated he was to buried with his wife Anna Forsyth Hassler.

Grandmother Forsyth Fahenstock was a Christian woman and attended church when she could. The pastor that conducted her funeral was Rev. Raub of the 2nd Reformed Church on Broad Street in Harrisburg, PA. This was the church in which my Mother was baptized. --William D. Kautz
