Biography

Rupert Hart-Davis is Notable.

Rupert was born the 28th of August 1907 to mother Sybil Mary (Cooper) Hart-Davis in Kensington, London, England. ^[1] Though legally the son of Richard Vaughan Hart-Davis, the couple was estranged by the time of Rupert's conception, and Rupert believed that the most likely candidate for his biological father was that of a Yorkshire banker named Sir William Gervase Beckett-Denison (Sir Gervase Beckett, 1st Baronet Beckett, of Kirkdale Manor in the County of Yorkshire).^[2][3]

Rupert first married Edith M E Ashcroft (Dame Edith Margaret Emily Ashcroft, DBE, Peggy Ashcroft) in 1929 at the age of 22. By 1933, the couple had parted ways, Rupert commenting that the marriage was "a sad failure: we were much too young to know what we wanted".^[4]

By November of 1933, Rupert married his second wife, Catherine Comfort Borden-Turner and had 3 children, Bridget, Duff and Adam. After the children had grown, the couple divorced.^[5]

In 1964, Rupert married his third wife, Ruth (Ware) Simon. After her untimely death in 1967^[6], Rupert married his fourth and final wife in 1968, June Williams, who outlived Rupert.^[7]
