Julia was born June 15, 1834 in Demarara, British West Indies while her father was working there as a missionary. Her parents were the Rev. Canon William Harrison, who was born in Maugerville and resided later in Saint John; and Julia (Merritt) Harrison, from a large Saint John family. Both parents were children of United Empire Loyalists.[1][2]
She returned to Saint John with her family in October of 1836, when her parents left the West Indies due to her mother's poor health and assessment that she would not improve in such a climate. Thereafter, her father was a minister in several Saint John churches eventually becoming the full-time minister of Saint Luke's Church in Portland.
Julia married her cousin, Jeremiah Harrison, who was a son of her uncle the Hon. Charles Harrison. Charles was a member of the provincial legislature. Jeremiah was a merchant. They were married on May 19, 1859 at her father's church in Portland [2][3]
She passed away on May 14, 1923 in Fredericton at the age of 88 and was interred at the Fernhill Cemetery in Saint John.[1]
